I was discharged honorably from the Army about 8 months ago on a pregnancy separation. At the time, my battalion and brigade commanders recommended that I be discharged completely from the Army rather than serving my remaining contract time in the IRR. During the second week of January 2008, I received mobilization orders telling me that in 10 days time, I had to be ready to head down to South Carolina and subsequently deploy.

With my husband being in Iraq already, he and I separately looked up everything about this online. I felt that there was no way to prove I didn’t have any remaining IRR time other then my DD214. Even so, I just knew that HRC would never listen to me, a Specialist. My husband somehow located Bill Meili’s contact information and website, Meililaw.com. I called him the next day from work asking him what would happen if I simply did not show up. He advised me from there, and over the next couple of days I called him often.

When I finally did call HRC they did not listen to anything I had to say. I knew I had the proof in the DD214, but I simply did not have the means to get into contact with someone who would help me over there. This is when I decided to officially bring Mr. Meili in. Within 36 hours of my hiring him he managed to get in touch with HRC and prove to them that I did not have any IRR time remaining -- that I should have been discharged completely last June. I don’t know how he did it, and I honestly don’t care. I just know that I couldn’t have done it myself, and I’m just so thankful that I went to him for help instead of just sticking with my original plan of simply not showing up. This way I keep my honorable discharge and all the benefits that come with it, and now I'll never have to look over my shoulder, scared that the Army might track me down or call me back.
