In early May, I received the packet from the Army that nobody ever wants to see. Even worse, my wife opened and read the packet while I was at work. Hearing the shock and helplessness in her voice when she called me was incredibly sobering. I was being mobilized to Active Duty out of the IRR again, for the second time in the last 5 years. While I willingly deployed when involuntarily mobilized in 2004, I was not willing to subject my family and my career to that same upheaval after only 3 years back at home.
My first instinct was to fire off a packet to HRC with an emotional letter, asking if they even knew that they had mobilized me out of the IRR once already.
